I have never mentioned about “Runestones” seen in Sweden. Sweden has discovered many runestones which date back to even as far as 11th or 12th century.
Rune stones have an old scripture which doesn’t look like current Swedish at all but has been deciphered. Infact the are two types of Runestones based on difference in scripture and style of carving. This one was near Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred and was rediscovered in 1820s

Each Rune stone usually tells a short story of sorts. Making of Rune stones required skills and hence was costly even back then.
Most of the Runestones describe story of a conqueror or adventurer. Scriptures are about an event which was needed to be carved in stone for future generation.

This Runestone was raised by a mother in memory of her son, who travelled valiantly far for gold and died in South of certain region.

I found very good information in this website if you are interested. https://www.arcgis.com/
